Artifical Intelligence (AI) is the ability of a computer to learn on its own without being programmed to do a task.
In your daily life, you may have used AI-powered services such as Google Assistant, Siri, Alexa, Tesla self-driving, etc. Would you believe that AI was first founded in the 1940s and has risen in usage over the last five decades? As with any technology, AI has its pros and cons. It has been implemented into almost every field, from self driving cars to detecting cancer. Though AI seems like a good idea with all positives and no negatives it can still be a threat if used maliciously.
For example, it is possible to make an identical sounding version of your voice (called a deep fake) with AI; there are even some services that offer this. One dangerous use of this technology is pretending to be someone else. Like you could get a call from someone who sounds like a family member or someone you know and then they can trick you into doing something for them such as sending them money, meeting them in a dangerous location, etc. These types of scams are not very common yet, but they may start to popup soon with the more advanced innovations in AI.
We at AI Watch want to spread awareness about these kinds of threats and much more! And help everyone stay safe in this rapidly evolving world.
